The Perfect Distractions

This was another piece I entered for Act-So. Although it didn't win a medal, it was a major accomplishment, since I absolutely do not paint. I came up with the concept by observing the lives of we americans. We are easily distracted by things, relevant or irrelevant, and overlook other things/issues. The girl in the corner represents the things we overlook. The flowers inside of the vase represent the distractions, and each flower was picked based on their meaning. They were picked because they either meant death, love, vanity, fragility, hate and resentment, pride, wealth, beauty, youthfulness, or dark thoughts/feelings. The flower on the vase (a campion) means "I fall victim to". The flower in the girl's hair (forget-me-not) means remembrance.
